The End of the Iliad

Hi everyone, Odysseus here!!

It's been such a long time since I had the opportunity to contact any of you like this. You all know that I never really wanted to go to war - remember, I even tried to pretend I was a lunatic in order to get out of it? I'm still angry at those people who put my little baby Telemachus in front of a plough to catch me out! Luckily he's okay - at least he was when I left, it's been ten years now, how crazy's that?

Still, it was a pretty good war. Did you hear some of the stories? I mean, I was leading the high-hearted men of Kephallenia so clearly I had the best crew - Ithica rocks!! And that fight between Achilleus and Hektor, did you hear about that one? I mean, you wouldn't have enjoyed it Penelope love, but I bet Telemachus would be able to appreciate how brilliant it was. Seriously, it seems like the sort of fight that the gods would have been watching! Can't you just imagine Zeus and Athena sitting up there having a chat about what's going to happen? I bet they did just that!

Oh yeah, and the Trojan horse thing, did you hear about that? Really it should have been called the Greek horse I think - it's not like there were Trojans hiding inside it! But seriously, it was really cool. We built this horse and offered it to them as a gift, and we were all inside it and then jumped out and beat them all! I'll give you three guesses as to whose idea it was: 1, 2, 3... yes, it was I, Odysseus, who thought of that brilliant wooden horse plan and helped to win the war!

Even though I never wanted any part of this war - miss you guys so much Penelope & Telemachus - I'm really proud of the part that I played and I hope that you can all be proud too.

I'm glad that I'm on my way home now, I think there's a plan to stop by Thrace for a while but that shouldn't take too long. I'm confident I'll be home really soon. Can't wait to see everyone!
